Lieutenant Smith began his career as a
firefighter in June of 1980 with Carroll County
Fire/Rescue. During his 24 years of
firefighting service, he has secured 15 of them
with the Carrollton Fire Department. In 1993,
Lt. Smith was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant
and became the Carrollton Fire Department’s
first full time training officer.
In addition to being the Training Director, Lt.
Smith serves as an Administrative Assistant to
the Fire Chief. He assists with policies and
procedures, equipment specifications,
purchasing, portable equipment maintenance,
grant applications, research, information and
general office duties.
Lt. Smith also serves as the Safety Officer for
the department and responds to all major
incidents. He is in charge of teaching fire
safety to the schools and other organizations
and provides fire brigade training to local
industries.
Through the department training division, each
member receives over 240 hours of training each
year. Lt. Smith has Instructor certifications
ranging from the basic firefighter to the most
advanced, and is a HAZ/MAT Technician Instructor
also. He helps to schedule training for the
West Georgia Regional HAZ/MAT Team.
